Doncaster RLFC will help launch a new era in domestic rugby league this weekend.
Paul Cooke’s side kick off their new Kingstone Press Championship campaign at newly relegated London Broncos on Sunday (3pm).
For the first time since 2007, clubs in England’s second flight will have the opportunity to win promotion to the Super League this season following a huge revamp of the English game.
The Dons finished fourth in last season’s Championship.
And if they were to repeat that feat this season they would end up in the new promotion play-offs.
In what has been officially named “The Qualifiers” by the Rugby Football League, the Super League’s bottom four and the Championship’s top four teams will come together after 23 rounds in their respective leagues to compete for the four remaining places in Super League in 2016.
However, this season’s Championship looks set to be more competitive than ever - and Doncaster’s credentials will get a very early examination against a well-fancied Broncos team at The Hive on Sunday.
