The Dons have completed the signing of versatile forward Steve Snitch.

The arrival of the 30-year-old came just a day after fellow forward Grant Edwards announced his retirement from the game.

Snitch will bring Super League experience to the Dons having turned out for Wakefield, Castleford and Huddersfield at both front and back row.

After leaving Castleford in 2012 he moved to Australia to turn out for Northern Pride,

Head coach Paul Cooke said: “We’re delighted to have Steve on board.

“We’ve been actively seeking a front and back rower for a number of weeks.

“He brings a wealth of experience having played in Super League, reaching the Challenge Cup final and playing in Australia and we are looking forward to getting him in the side.”

Snitch is unlikely to make his Dons debut this weekend having not played since September, with Cooke pledging to look after him.

Edwards’ departure comes as somewhat of a surprise given his try scoring contribution in the win at Sheffield Eagles last month.

He said: “It’s been the hardest decision I have ever made.

“I ‘ve been thinking about it for sometime and I feel the time is right to look to the future and different opportunities outside of playing.

“I would like to thank everybody from Carl Hall right down to the physio’s, but especially the Dons fans whose support has been brilliant towards me over the past five seasons.”
