Dons’ half back Paul Cooke has been busy spreading the rugby league word in and around the Doncaster area over the last few weeks.

Cooke has joined the Dons successful and highly regarded community development team and Sprotbrough’s Copley Junior School was his first taste of coaching some of the town’s youngsters.

Other schools who have since received coaching from Cooke are Norton Juniors, Waverley, Owston Park, Adwick Park, Askern Spa and Woodlands.

A number of fans and supporters of the club have kindly made financial pledges through the club’s Squadbuilder fund to help bring Cooke to Doncaster.

Cooke is relishing his new part-time role and said: “It’s great to be putting something back into the game that has given me so much throughout my career.

“Rugby league in Doncaster might not be as popular as it is in the likes of Hull or Castleford but we’re hoping to change that through our school programmes by encouraging more and more children to play the game.”
