TEENAGER Connor Scott is set to make a shock debut for Sheffield Eagles against Barrow Raiders in tonight’s crunch game.
Coach Mark Aston has called up the 18-year-old from Hillsborough with his squad hit by injuries and the loss of loan players.
“We’ve lost the loan players but it gives someone else an opportunity,” said Aston. “It could be Connor, as we belive in giving local lads opportunities.”
It would be a pressure debut for Scott with the game at Don Valley Stadium live on Sky Sports (kick-off 7.30pm).
A defeat by Barrow could see the clubs swapping places in the Championship with the Eagles sliding from fourth to sixth.
Second row or prop forward Scott is a young giant at 6ft 3ins and 16 stone. He has come through the Eagles Scholarship and Academy but has only played two reserve team games.
Eagles need to bounce back only four days after their three-match winning run ended at Widnes Vikings.
“We have to be a bit tougher on ourselves,” said Aston. “The lads are working hard as a group. They deserve to be in the top four and I won’t let them throw the hard work away.”
Aston’s selection options have been hit by Huddersfield recalling half-back Kyle Wood with fellow dual registration signing from the Giants centre Jamie Cording ruled out with an ankle injury. Bradford Bulls’ winger Vinny Finigan is the only loan player available.
Utility forward or half-back Dane McDonald is out with a trapped nerve in his shoulder and prop Eddie Battye struggling with a leg injury.
Misi Taulapapa will play with a scrum cap protecting five stitches in a head wound.
