Rival's pecs appeal

JOHN Fewkes wasn't overly impressed when his rival arrived at a press conference with muscles bulging through a too-tight vest.

While most people couldn't avoid admiring Gary Reid's Hulk-like figure, Fewkes shrugged it off.

"He might have muscles - but he hasn't got that many on his chin," he said.

Fewkes, from Norfolk Park, Sheffield, takes on Jamaican born Stoke-based Reid at Doncaster Dome on Friday. And no amount of pumping iron will have prepared Reid for the lesson he is about to get, says Fewkes.

"Gary will be strong and powerful; he's clearly very fit and will be wanting to bully me into the ropes," he said.

"But I am a much better boxer than him and I know I will beat him.

"Having said that, I know I cannot afford to be lazy, because he might catch me.

"It sounds like this fight will be a British title eliminator so I cannot afford any slip-ups."

Fewkes, aged 22, has been on a week-long training camp in Portugal as part of his preparations.

"I did a lot of running at altitude and came back almost a stone lighter and feeling a lot better for it," he said.

"The fight has been made at 9st 11lbs and I'lll make that no problem.
