AUSTRALIAN racer Daniel Ricciardo has set his sights on winning the battle of the backmarkers in Formula One.
The Red Bull junior driver, who joined Hispania HRT three races ago to gain experience, hopes to outperform his teammate Tonio Liuzzi and rivals Marussia Virgin Racing in the remaining eight races of the season.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend, Ricciardo crossed the line in 18th position in front of Liuzzi and Virgin’s Jerome d’Ambrosio, who is in his debut year in motor sport’s premier competition.
Ricciardo, who has yet to beat Liuzzi in qualifying, said: “If I could manage to sneak out a personal best result or edge out Tonio and the Virgins in a few races that would be a strong result. I have to aim high because it is only going to help me for the future.”
