Relegated Dons urged to keep on battling

DONCASTER Rugby League Club boss John Stankevitch wants his charges to go down fighting in their final three National League One games of the season.

"We may have lost our fight to stay in this division following Sunday's defeat at Batley, but that doesn't mean that we are just going to go through the motions between now and the end of the season," said Stankevitch on the eve of tomorrow's trip to Leigh.

"We've got a tough run-in against three teams who all hope to be in the play-offs, but I am looking for good performances in all three.

"In fact I am really confident that we can go to Hilton Park and pick up a win even though there will be some surprises in my selections and I could leave one or two key players out.

"The pressure that the players have been under in the last six or so weeks has now been lifted and they can just go out and enjoy their rugby and be relaxed.

"But at the same time some of the fringe players I will be giving a game to in the next couple of weeks, will be trying to impress me and win themselves a contract for next season.

"I have already offered ten players contracts and I am confident that at least nine will stay. The only doubt is hooker Gary Richardson, who has done a great job. He lives in the Widnes area so there is a lot of travelling involved and he also has a young family."

Leigh dropped to fifth last weekend following their crushing 68-22 defeat at Halifax.

"We've got a few bruised egos and a bit of embarrassment," said Leigh coach Darren Shaw.

"Tomorrow's game gives us the chance to get back on track and get some confidence back.

"But we know that Doncaster will be a tough side and that we will have to play well."
