TIGERS fired a late-season championship warning after a power-packed performance against play-off rivals Workington at Owlerton.

The Comets are in the hunt for a top four finish in the Premier League, but Sheffield signalled their intent by easily claiming all three points.

Hopes are high that Reg Wilson's side can claim their first league crown since 2002 in the final furlong of the season.

In a commanding display, the bonus point was in the bag after just four heats.

Skipper Andre Compton was back to his untouchable best with a 15-point maximum, while Ben Wilson's only defeat by an opponent was by Ulrich Ostergaard in the last race.

It was an all-round team effort, including a super paid 9 from reserve guest Ben Powell, deputising for the injured James Birkinshaw.

Tigers opened with 5-1s in the first two races, brushing aside the Workington challenge to go 33-15 up at the halfway mark.

The one-way traffic continued as the Comets managed just two race winners all night. Only Ostergaard and James Wright, who rides in the Elite League for Belle Vue, offered any resistance.

Said Reg Wilson: "We easily took the three points to keep us in the play-off race and a home win against Newport should make certain. We are peaking at the right time."
