Wednesday won their first points of the season thanks to a great 40th minute goal from Francis Jeffers - his first for the club - and a battling, much improved show delighted their fans and included fine debuts by Graham Kavanagh and Michael Johnson.

Sheffield United's miserable run away from home continued at Selhurst Park this afternoon. Ben Watson's great penalty denied them a share of the spoils following an unexpected goal glut in the second half.

Barnsley clinched their first away win of the season in an incredible finish. Grant McCann put them two goals ahead with great free kicks only for Southampton to draw level in injury time. But just when it looked as if the point would be shared, Martin Devaney grabbed a winner.

Southend 3 Rovers 2

Leon Clarke, on-loan from the Owls, comdemnded Doncaster defeat, slotting home a 60th minute penalty to complete a fine comeback after they had trailed at the interval to goals from Roberts and Guy. Barrett had given Southend the lead before McCormack got Southend's second.

Spireites 0 Barnet 1

Chesterfield's unbeaten run came to an end as Jason Norville headed the only goal of the game from a yard in a scrappy affair in which the home side never got going. Lester and Lowry had Spireites best chances.

Millers 1 Notts County 1

Despite getting off to a flying start when Peter Holmes struck his first goal for the club the Millers found themselves pegged back. However, there was a clear look of offside about the 35th minute equaliser from the lively Spencer Weir-Daley.
