Attention is back with the prestigious Bookmakers’ Afternoon Greyhound Services (BAGS) Intertrack Championship as Owlerton Greyhound Stadium gets ready for the second heat.
Greyhound racing’s biggest team event will see Owlerton, Nottingham and Kinsley battle it out at Kinsley Stadium, near Pontefract on Sunday.
Owlerton, the reigning champions, made a promising start in the first heat finishing in second place behind Nottingham.
The final heat will be staged at Owlerton on November 28 with the grand final in December, at a venue to be confirmed, where teams compete to win £12,500 prize money.
John Gilburn, managing director at Owlerton Stadium, said: “Our trainers made a promising start in the first round so we are hoping to see if we can go one better in the next heat. A win would put us in a great position in the lead up to the third and final heat here at Owlerton.”
Owlerton Stadium is celebrating bonfire night with a bang when it hosts its own firework spectacular.
The stadium, on Penistone Road, will be opening its gates this Sunday for a fun family evening with races followed by an explosive firework display.
Turnstiles will open at 4pm and the first race will start at 5pm, with fireworks beginning after the last race at 8pm after the dogs have left the Stadium. A children’s entertainer will be performing balloon modelling, juggling, unicycling and magic tricks to keep the youngsters entertained.
Pre-booked tickets are £2 adults and £1 children and admission on the night is £4 and £1.
