OWLERTON Stadium provided the scene for a big upset in greyhound racing this week, as 10 to one outsider Skywalker Louie triumphed in the Betfred Steel City Cup, landing its Sheffield based owners £7,500 in prize money.
Stadium’s General Manager Dave Perry said: “It was a proud moment for us and for the owners to have a locally trained greyhound triumph on home soil in front of SKY TV cameras. Skywalker Louie is trained at this track by Elaine Parker and owned by the Micky Fitz syndicate, and its won them a hefty amount of prize money!” Louie was one of three locally trained dogs in the field and was cheered home by a crowd of 900 as he raced past his competitors. “It was our biggest race of the year,” said Perry. “And £7,500 isn’t bad for 20 seconds worth of work is it?”
