Star Grass Roots has continued her promising run with another good performance.

The Star’s greyhound puppy ran a strong A6 grade race finishing in a respectable third position and only being beaten by one length.

She also ran her second ever fastest time at 30.48 sec.

Dave Perry, general manager of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “She didn’t trap brilliantly but she was always up with the front greyhounds which was lovely to see. If she had trapped a little better I think she could have won this race. She’s becoming a lot more consistent and I don’t think it’ll be too long until she gets her nose back in front.”

Owlerton has hosted a number of charitable events this month helping to raise almost £10,000 for local good causes in July so far.

Separate charity nights were held by St Wilfred’s Centre, which offers practical support to homeless and vulnerable people, raising £3,300 and Ella’s Fund which collected £4,765 to support children with brain tumours and cancer.

And the Lyon’s Den networking group had its recent get-together at the Stadium and raised £1,610 for the Master Cutler’s benefiting charities – Sheffield Hospital’s Charity and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
