Tour of Britain: Stars of world cycling, including Tom Pidcock, to race over Sheffield hills in stage three

Double Olympic champions Remco Evenepoel and Tom Pidcock and double world road race champion Julian Alaphilippe, will be members of the 18 top teams riding from Arundel Gate to Barnsley on September 5, 2024.
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “The Tour of Britain coming back to South Yorkshire is not just exciting, it will help inspire the next generation of cyclists.

The Tour of Britain Stage three will set off from Sheffield at 11am and is expected to reach the finish in Barnsley between 2.48pm and 3.35pm - all the action will be broadcast on ITV4.
Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield is known as the Outdoor City. We pride ourselves on our green space and the wealth of outdoor activities we have on offer, including our vast cycling trails.
“We have a huge amount to offer cycling enthusiasts. From a one-of-a-kind inner-city mountain biking trail to our very own annual city centre cycling race, the Sheffield Grand Prix, which has just celebrated its 10th ever event.

Hide Ad“We are really looking forward to hosting the start of the third stage of the Tour of Britain Men, next week, and welcoming not only some of the world’s best cyclists, but also cycling enthusiasts from across the region who will be spectating.”
Sheffield will be throwing a big ‘Community Cycling Festival’ at Forge Valley School, which has a cycle track, on September 4 - the day before the race.
Visitors of all ages and abilities will be able to ride on the 1km track with the ‘turn up and have a go’ sessions. The festival will also offer Learn to Ride sessions, bike maintenance workshops and refreshments and entertainment.
Race fans are invited to watch the 18 teams prepare for the stage from 9.30am on the day of the event outside the Crucible Theatre. The riders and teams will also be presented to the crowd on the podium on Arundel Gate at 9.50am.
