Following their promotion to the Premiership, confirmed at the sport’s AGM this week, Nicol made it a priority to find a new Championship club and Glasgow obliged.

He said: "I want to thank everyone at Sheffield who gave me the opportunity to race over here midway through 2018.

“I made a lot of friends during my time there and I won't forget the chance they gave me to come over here from the States and race.

"The chance to race for Glasgow was a great opening for me and one I didn't think twice about.

“It's a club that wants to win trophies and I want to be a part of it. I see it as a great chance to restart my time over here and hopefully go on to become a better rider.

“Injuries have slowed me down a little recently so hopefully I can have an injury free season.

"I like the track and I have scored well there in the recent past. I'm looking forward to coming over early next year to meet the fans and get myself set up ready for the season."

Tigers have drawn up a list of riders for their first season in the top division in 30 years and have already been speaking to their targets.

News is expected over the next week of their first signings with the club keen to emphasise they are ready for a play-off push in their first season.
