Sheffield Sharks head coach Atiba Lyons praises character of his BBL play off-bound team

The Sharks travel to Surrey Scorchers on Friday (6pm tip-off) before another long away trip to Plymouth Raiders on Sunday (3pm tip-off) in their penultimate games of the regular season.

Back-to-back wins last weekend saw Sheffield Sharks move up to fifth in the BBL with a 14-13 record.

“I would love to think we have turned a corner but it's always a work in progress,” said Lyons.

"We have got a lot of confidence with winning those overtime games but this season everyone's been a threat and I don't know if there is a turning corner because everyone is pushing so hard.”

The Sharks recovered from the disappointment of being pegged back by Bristol last weekend and demonstrated a different side of their character to stay in the game when trailing against Worcester Wolves.

“This team has something which is taken for granted: they have that high belief in themselves, “Lyons said.

“They don't have a defeatist attitude and as long as there's time on the clock the guys are going to play hard and give it their all.”

“Against Bristol we played better, we controlled a lot of the game. We were probably the stronger team offensively for the large part. We showed a lot of resilience and heart to keep control of that game because it could have easily gone the other way.

"[Against Worcester] we didn't look like the stronger team for a lot of the game but we stuck with it and eventually got going."
