It hasn’t been the easiest of starts for the Tigers, who were strongly tipped pre-season, losing all seven of their fixtures on the road in all competitions.

For the second time in the space of three away meetings though, Tigers came within a whisker of getting that first away win of the season on Wednesday.

They were eventually pipped 46-44 at Birmingham though in yet another last heat decider, but Nicol is keen to focus on the positives.

“It was another close one and we’re having a few of those so far this year,” Nicol said.

“It would’ve been good to finally get an away win because then we could put that behind us and look forward.

“But we just fell short again and it’s something we need to work on as a team to make sure we stay strong all the way through and not keep letting it slip like we have done a few times now.

“There is just that little something that’s missing at the minute – but that happens in speedway.

“We’re all doing okay but as we’ve all said before, we haven’t all really clicked at the same time yet and when we do then we’re going to get a pretty heavy win under our belts.

“I think something is about to click though, I think something isn’t far away from us and hopefully that happens soon.

“We’ve definitely shown signs of improvement and we’re taking steps in the right direction, and as long as we learn from where we’re going wrong then I’m sure we’ll get there.”

Tigers are back at Owlerton this Sunday (5.30) – with league leaders Leicester the visitors who have already won once in the Steel City this year.

“That was another tough one and they are a strong side,” Nicol said.

“But we have to keep working away no matter which team we come up against.

“There are no easy meetings in this league really but we know we’ve got so much more to give as a team.”
