Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan's hopes of a record-equalling seventh Crucible title ended in round two when he was knocked out by Scotland's Anthony McGill in a thrilling decider to win 13-12.

The final session - on Monday, May 3 - will see the famous trophy presented at snooker’s biggest tournament.

Under the Government-led Events Research Programme the Betfred World Championship is the first indoor sporting event in the UK to welcome back fans in 2021.

Since the event began on April 17, crowds have enjoyed the unique Crucible atmosphere, while following a set of protocols which includes showing a negative Covid-19 test before entry and observing a code of conduct.

The potential capacity started at 33% for the first round and rises to 100% for the final on May 2nd and 3rd. Tickets for the afternoon and evening sessions on Sunday May 2nd are still available, as well as the afternoon session on Monday May 3.

A WST spokesman said: “It has been a fantastic event so far and amazing to see fans returning to live sport. We urge anyone interested in coming to read the information carefully and consider taking this chance to see one of the world’s great sporting events in a globally famous venue. Usually tickets sell out a year in advance so this is a unique opportunity to be there and experience the extraordinary atmosphere.

“To have a full house for the final night will be a historic occasion and we are proud to be part of the Events Research Programme which will help the whole country move forward through scientific data. Now that the last night has sold out we expect all sessions earlier in the event to sell quickly, so fans should move fast.”
