Athletics: Strong South Yorkshire contingent set for British Cross series in Liverpool this weekend

The event has attracted a strong entry list as it serves as a trial for the European Championships in Lisbon next month.

James Gormley (City of Sheffield and Dearne) is in the men’s race and should be well-placed following good performances in races in both Dublin and Mansfield recently.

Other local athletes in the men’s race include Alfie Manthorpe (City of Sheffield), Rotherham pair Joe Massingham and Lee Milburn and Hallamshire duo Cameron Bell and James McCrae.

Rotherham’s Zara Knappy runs in the women’s race, whilst her teammates Keiva Rennocks, Cyane Robinson and Emma Ball are poised to take part in the junior women’s race.

Esther Rowe-Towle (City of Sheffield and Dearne), outstanding over the country last year, is set for her first outing of the season in the under 17 girls race.

Meanwhile, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire road runners will be out on force at the Clowne Half Marathon on Sunday.

The race starts at 9am and there is a full entry list of 900.

Also on Sunday is the Doncaster 10K, from Doncaster Racecourse (10am), which has attracted over 3,000 entries.
