Adam Lyth can't wait to play in front of crowd again as Yorkshire face Roses rivals Lancashire

The Roses clash had spice anyway, with both sides separated by only three points in the County Championship group three table, but the televised clash will also now have around 4,000 fans present after the latest stage of the prime minister’s roadmap out of Covid-19 lockdown passed earlier this month.

“Every Roses game is important, but these two are heightened given we’re both up there at the top of the league,” opener Lyth said.

“They are just ahead of us at the minute, but all we can do is play good cricket for four days. If we do that, we’ll be in a good place.

“It will be much more enjoyable to play in now there’s a crowd in.

“Wickets and milestones, every good shot, there will be more cheering and clapping. It’s brilliant, perfect. We’ve all been desperate for crowds to be back in watching us.

“A Roses game is the nearest thing to international cricket, especially the T20s in front of a full house on a Friday night. But Championship games get the best out of players as well.”

The return Roses game will be held at Lyth’s home ground of Scarborough, a game that will hopefully be played in front of a full house.

“I think it will be a proud moment for everyone involved at Scarborough and around the local area,” Lyth added.

“I’m sure the crowd will be pretty electric.

“It’s been my home ground since I was a kid.

“I love playing in Roses games. I love the challenge. I love everything about them. To have one at Scarborough is going to special.”

Yorkshire searching for a first County Championship title win since 2015, are second in the table, 18 points ahead of third-placed Glamorgan who have played a game more than the Tykes. The top two sides in each group progress to the next round, to fight for the title in August and September.
