The striker had made his first appearance for the Owls a week previously in the opening game of the 1986/87 season at Charlton, but waited a week before announcing himself to his new fans.

5. Glynn Snodin
Now a well-travelled and well-respected coach, Snodin left the Owls for Leeds (he wasn't the ony one) in 1987 and after spells at Hearts and Barnsley he embarked on a successful coaching career that has taken him to the likes of Leeds, West Ham, the Northern Ireland international side, Preston, Huddersfield, Sunderland, Bradford and Chesterfield. 6. Nigel Worthington
Another who would leave to join Leeds, popular Wothington went from Elland Road to Stoke and then Blackpool before taking over the latter as boss. Had managerial roles at Norwich, Leicester, Northern Ireland and his last job was at York City, where he was sacked in 2014. Photo: Mike Hewitt
7. Tony Gregory
Gregory spend six years at Wednesday before injury brought an early end to his career in 1990 and from there he training to be a chiropodist. Now runs his own practise in Doncaster Photo: Steve Taylor
8. Brian Marwood
Marwood is now a big-hitter behind the scenes at Manchester City (and others) as managing director of City Football Group. He spent five year at Wednesdaay before George Graham signed him for Arsenal where he won a league title. Moved to Sheffield United but struggled to nail down a place and moved on to help Swindon into the Premier League.
