McGrath illness sees Yorkshire's task get harder

A TOUGH day for Yorkshire was made harder when acting skipper Anthony McGrath fainted in the field as defending champions Sussex took charge of their County Championship showdown match at Hove.

McGrath passed out while fielding at mid-off and had to be helped from the field.

Affected by mild heatstroke, he lost consciousness while Matthew Hoggard came in to bowl from the sea end with Sussex 331 for five in the 87th over.

Looking groggy, he was helped to his feet after two minutes and was led off to be checked over by a doctor.

Yorkshire were optimistic that, after taking in fluids, he will be able to take a full part today.

Sussex went into the match in third place but with a game in hand over Yorkshire. Whoever comes out on top of this contest will be strongly placed for the title.

Mike Yardy scored his first century of the Championship season on the opening day as Sussex reach 386 for five after winning the toss on a good batting wicket.
