Louise is first lady in final thriller

TOP match on finals day at the Sheffield & District Tennis Tournament proved to be the ladies singles final, a thrilling affair between Louise Holtum and Lucy Wright.

They had to be separated by two tie-breaks, top seed Louise winning both of them, the second-set tie-break seeing her beat No 2 seed Lucy 12-10.

The finals, which had to be switched indoors at Hallamshire Tennis Club due to rain began with the men’s final which was also No 1 seed v No 2 but with a much more clear cut outcome as top seed Chris Harrison beat James Riley 6-1, 6-2.

However, Harrison missed out in the men’s doubles final. He and Christian Kleeli, the top seeds, lost 7-6, 6-4 to Richard Furness and Josh Gledden, the second seeds.

Singles champions Louise Holtum triumphed in the ladies doubles. Partnered by Olivia Noble and seeded second, she had a 6-4, 6-2 win over No 1 seeds Annabel Gledden and Agnes Hau.

The mixed doubles final went to ranking, top seeds Josh Gledden and Agnes Hau beating No 2 seeds Kevin Folger and Amy Harris 6-3, 6-4.

The men’s handicap singles final was won by Liam Rudge who beat Chris Bagnall 7-5, 12-10.
