Leeds stall as both strikers are sent off

Seb Carole (28) put Dennis Wise’s men ahead but Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford both saw red. Manager Wise was also sent to the stand.

Ian Cox headed home from a corner to salvage a point for the Gills in the last minute.

Leeds are still on seven points after beginning with a 15-point deficit.

Leyton Orient stayed at the top with a thrilling 3-2 win at Bristol Rovers. Penalties from Richard Walker (41 and 54) put the Pirates ahead but Wayne Gray (59), Tamika Mkandawire (77) and sub Jason Demetriou (81) sealed a stunning comeback for Orient.

Closest rivals Tranmere came from two down to draw 2-2 with Northampton. Goals from Andy Kirk (12) and Poul Hubertz (39) appeared to leave the Cobblers comfortable, but Chris Shuker (69) and Gareth Taylor’s header with two minutes left handed Rovers a point.

Southend joined them on 15 points after Leon Clarke (32) and Alan McCormack (45) helped them to a 2-1 win at managerless Port Vale .

A brace from Joe Garner (27 and 39) fired Carlisle to a 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

A last-minute 25-yarder from Paul Hall handed Walsall a shock 1-0 win at high-flying Hartlepool.

Swindon beat Millwall 2-1.
