Davide Giugliano overcame cold and wet conditions to earn the first pole position of his World Superbikes career at Donington Park.

The 24-year-old Italian posted a time of one minute 44.903 seconds to go top of the timesheet for Sunday’s fifth-round races.

Giugliano, who is seventh in the overall standings, did struggle in the inclement weather, though, crashing and remounting his Ducati Superbike after posting his fastest time. Leon Haslam (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) and Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team) join Giugliano on the front row.

Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) and Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team) were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Reigning world champion Tom Sykes was seventh on his Kawasaki, while Jonathan Rea (PATA Honda World Superbike), who leads the overall standings by four points from Sykes, was eighth fastest.
