Rob Dowd believes Sheffield Steelers will start to click into gear soon.

The forward described last Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Nottingham Panthers as a “learning curve” - and is confident the team will start to get things right tomorrow, at Edinburgh, and Sunday at Dundee.

Dowd is likely to return to his line with Jeff Legue and Aaron Nell, despite being switched midway in the last game to the Stefan Meyer-Maxime Lacroix formation. “I love to play with Leggy and Nelly, they are both great players” Dowd said on video at thestar.co.uk

“I got switched to Lacroix and Meyer line (against Notts) and that seemed to work better. We had plenty of possession and created a lot of chances...which will turn into goals.”

Dowd said early season rustiness was responsible for some missed chances. Defensively he was impressed by two new boys. “Gord Baldwin and Dustin Kohn are both excellent defenders” he said.

Steelers trained in Blackburn, Lancashire today, as the School Games have taken over ice facilities in Sheffield.

“It’s far from ideal but we play the cards we are dealt” said asst coach Marc LeFebvre.

“We are lucky that our off ice training is good and our off ice training staff are on top of things. The guys have been kept busy and worked hard all week.

“You can’t beat having ice though, one day you can live with two you can’t and it was important we found the ice in Blackburn and are grateful to their rink for allowing us to use it.

“It means at 6am start for us in the morning but if that’s what we have to do then so be it. It’s a huge weekend away with two road games in Scotland to start our league campaign off. I am sure Edinburgh and Dundee will be prepared and ready for us. We have to be the same and this hour in Blackburn can’t be underestimated in our own preparation.”
