Steeldogs bounced back from a winless opening weekend with two surprising but deserved victories.

Saturday night’s 5-4 win over the Lightning in Milton Keynes turned on an inspired seven minutes in the second period where the Steeldogs scored 4 goals to take a 5-2 lead.

A strong MK side, coached by GB head Coach Peter Russell seemed stunned by Sheffield’s energy and execution with Lubomir Korhon and Arnoldas Bosas leading the charge and the scoring.

Back home on Sunday the high scoring Swindon Wildcats provided the challenge. Despite still missing defenceman Lee Haywood, the Steeldogs played a disciplined and focused effort and when Swindon did get a shot, net minder Dalibor Sedlar was on top form. Bosas scored two more with Stanislav Lascek adding the third in a 3-1 win.

New player/coach Greg Wood seems to have the team performing and they will be out to maintain the winning run when the Guildford Flames visit on Saturday (26th, 7.30 face-off)

Wood said: "I’m over the moon getting the 4 points. All in all it was thoroughly deserved, all the guys stuck to their tasks. We had a really hard week in practice and off the ice everyone is buying in to what we are trying to do here

“Everyone has contributed. We lost Liam Charnock and Callum Pattison has stepped onto a line and he has picked up assists and had a fight.

"People can say what they want about him but he can play as well. Also the guys who are paid to score did their job this weekend. Bosas is on fire, averaging 2 goals a game. Lascek is scoring as is Lubo (Lubomir Korhon). We are taking it a game at a time but we are starting to really make strides and as long as we bear down in practice like we have done this week, we are going to have a pretty good year”.

“On Saturday we play Guildford Flames and during training this week we are going to work on ways to beat them. If we play disciplined and are well organised, we have every chance. With the kind of goaltending we have had from Dali (Dalibor Sedlar) tonight, that will always give you that chance. I’m really excited for the coming weekend”.
