SHEFFIELD Steelers crashed to a 5-1 defeat at Nottingham Panthers.

In a display that embarrassed player coach Ryan Finnerty, the defeat severely impacts on the champions’ intention to retain the League title.

Steeler captain Jonathan Phillips had fired his side ahead after only 4.52 but after that there was only one team in it as David Clarke Rhett Gordon’s and Brock Wilson wracked up a 3-1 first period lead.

David-Alexandre Beauregard and Clarke nailed Steelers again in the middle session before Panthers could afford to relax and contain Steelers’ misfiring powerplay.

Fuller assessment in Monday’s Star.
