The ice hockey season is not dead and buried for Sheffield Steelers’ fans after all.

The Elite League club’s followers are being encouraged to get behind Sheffield Steeldogs in the quarter final home-and-away series against Basingtoke Bison.

Dogs host Bison at iceSheffield on Sunday, 5.30pm after Saturday’s away leg in Hampshire.

Coach Andre Payette’s side beat Bracknell 5-2 but lost 7-2 at Guildford at the end of the regular season.

The results meant the club sealed a highly creditable third position in the EPL table.

Payette said: “We are really looking forward to next weekend against Bison and moving forwards to Coventry, when it would be great to make Steeldogs’ history by being one of the final four. I’m appealing to all Sheffield fans to come and support us in the deciding leg of the Quarter Finals on Sunday - let’s see if we can get our biggest crowd of the season.”

Sheffield’s second team haven’t made the semis since 2008.
