Steelers head coach Doug Christiansen has confirmed the signing of former NHL and AHL forward Stefan Meyer.

Meyer has played 20 NHL games and a further 387 in the American Hockey League.

“We are getting a player who has killed penalties in the NHL, AHL,” said Christiansen. “He is hungry and wants to be great in our league.”

“I can’t wait to arrive in Sheffield” said Meyer “I’m excited to get going. There were a lot of factors in me choosing Sheffield. Firstly the coaching staff. I like the way they talk and put themselves over to me, they seem like coaches I will enjoy playing for.

“I know I am coming to a team with a winning tradition, a great building and long history.

“I’m a player who does a bit of everything. I like dirty goals. I stick up for myself and my team mates. I don’t go looking for trouble but Idon’t turn my back on it either.”
