SHEFFIELD Steelers player coach Ryan Finnerty has saluted “special talent” Rod Sarich and he remains hopeful of retaining the services of one of the Elite League’s top defencemen.
It was six years ago Sarich joined the Steelers and he has featured in 294 matches, hitting 242 points.
Finnerty said: “Roddy has asked for some time to look at some opportunity’s in Europe. I think it’s getting to decision day for both of us. Roddy knows I value him as a player and as a teammate. I know he is fully respected and I know he can deliver for us. He can do things that others can’t.
“He is a special talent. He has been a special player for the Steelers, he is one of the main reasons the club has won so much in his time here.”
Meanwhile, new Steelers owner Tony Smith has slashed prices for the Festival of Hockey, which takes place at the Arena on August 27. Club legends Ron Shudra, Tommy Plommer, Wayne Cowley and Mike Blaisdell will be the special guests at the event.
He said: “We are confident that our new pricing policy will attract many fans and that we will fill the arena for the most special of days.”
