Have your say

DOUG Christiansen had to take one of the toughest decisions he will face at Sheffield Steelers right at the start of his reign.

The new coach axed Ashley Tait: his financial package going to youth rather than experience, in Rob Dowd.

“There is no doubt that Tait is one of the premier British players” said Christiansen. “But Dowd was my number one target and you can’t have two of these guys both at the top of the pyramid. Tait is one of he reasons why there are so many banners hanging in the Arena. He is a true professional and has been an outstanding servant to Steelers.”

He added: “Having coached him at international level and coached against him here domestically I can say that I have the upmost respect for him as a person and a player.
