Sheffield Steeldogs put their credentials on the line when they host Elite League Hull Stingrays on Tuesday, 7,30pm.

Andre Payette’s English Premier League team are adamant they can compete with the top tier team, in the Yorkshire Cup contest as one of the warm-up games before their league season starts on September 25.

Payette said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to see how my team performs against a higher level team. We have been training hard on and off the ice over the summer and this game gives me the chance to see the areas that need polishing. We have an additional liaison with Hull this season after Sylvain Cloutier (Hull’s coach) offered our starting netminder, Ben Bowns, a two-way contract.

“This offers Ben not only training with Stingrays, but also some invaluable game ice-time when the opportunity arises. It has been a busy few months for me in putting the new roster together and seeking sponsors. The roster is just about complete and we have some excellent sponsors on board.

“I am still in discussion with other companies though there are some excellent packages remaining to support an exciting young Sheffield team.”

Hull feature several new players, including ex-Steeler Derek Campbell, while Steeldogs will be icing experienced defenceman and ex-Stingray, Pavel Gomeniuk.
