Dogs host Swindon Wildcats, whom they beat in 5-4, away, last Saturday. The iceSheffield game will also include a ‘Teddy Toss’ event, in aid of charities.

Speaking on video at Dogs coach Andre Payette said fans were being encouraged to throw teddies on to the ice, after Dogs score. These would then go to kids at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Bluebell Hospice, and also to Issabelle’s Appeal.

While it won’t mirror the 26,000 teddies thrown on the ice at a Calgary Hitmen game, they were expecting a big haul.

“Let’s just hope we score a goal” joked Payette ahead of Sunday’s game against Swindon, and, tomorrow, at Bracknell Bees. Payette is offering Steelers season ticket holders a concessionary rate to watch Sunday’s iceSheffield contest.

Dogs have won their last two, but were beaten in their four previous encounters.

“We have been inconsistent but have addressed issues and got back to playing our brand of hockey, which is north-south not east-west” said Payette. “We want to chase the puck, initiate contact, fight for everything. We got away from that. Hopefully we can put a string of wins together and go into Christmas maybe in fifth place.”
