Tanner Eberle credited coach Paul Thompson for his part in Sheffield Steelers' 3-2 home victory over Nottingham Panthers.
Sheffield had lost three of five home games before they beat Panthers, in the Challenge Cup.
And their previous win, over Dundee Stars, had not been a display to remember.
The Canadian winger, who scored against Nottingham on Saturday, revealed that Thompson had delivered " a few pretty good speeches for us" in the run-up to the game.
"We know as a team we have not been good enough, especially at home" said Eberle.
But getting four lines back helped, he said.
Steelers are at Coventry Blaze this evening.
