Mark Thomas is to become a 10-year Steeler, after the Sheffield club granted him a new two year deal. The defenceman is tied to the club until the end of the 2014-5 campaign, one in which he will have a testimonial.
The 29-year-old joined Sheffield in the 2005-6 season from London Racers and has iced in 440 games, helping the club to four league titles and play off championships.
“I was blown away when the club mentioned a testimonial to me” he said. “When I arrived with my kit bag over my shoulder I’d never have dreamed of 10 years here, winning trophies and now being awarded such an honour. I want to win and have missed that feeling. We’ve had two dry years when things haven’t gone the way wanted.”
New head coach Doug Christiansen commented: “”Having coached Mark for four international tournaments with Team Great Britain, I have come to appreciate his professionalism and skill set. He is an outstanding teammate who loves the Steelers.
“He is motivated to get back to winning championships. I am excited to work with him the next two seasons. Hopefully, by the time he has his testimonial, he will have won more silverware.”
