Gerad Adams says his Sheffield Steelers team had made an early statement about standing up for each other.

Both Mark Thomas and Pascal Morency were involved in scraps during the win at Cardiff Devils, last Sunday.

Thomas is not a regular fighter - but he got involved when he felt import Jesse Mychan was taking liberties with a team-mate.

And Morency also received a fighting major penalty - probably inevitable in his case as he can be a real agitator.

Coch Adams said: “These two did a really good job for us at Cardiff in those fights and it shows that players are prepared to stand up for each other.

“Thomas jumped in at the right time and Morency is always going to be in the thick of things like that.

“I was thrilled the way we reacted in a rink where it is all about five one-on-one battles.

“Darrell Hay was outstanding at the back and Michael Forney and Mathieu Roy were excellent on the line with Colton Fretter.”

Asked if he thought he had the hard working team he’d wanted to recruit he said: “Yeas, but there is more to come. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
