COLIN SHIELDS knows reputation alone won’t earn him a spot on Sheffield Steelers’ top line next season.
Such is the depth of the roster, the Scot knows only hard work and points will guarantee him a position among the team’s top performers. Shields, once the Elite League’s top marksman and with an American hockey background, says that any player proving his worth will be escallated up the ranks.
“Guys know that they will be able to step up if they are playing well” said the 32-year-old. “Competition is good, it keeps everybody on their toes. And the fact that we have four lines also means there will be chances for the younger guys to gain experience while others will have less wear and tear on the body.”
