Sheffield Steelers have recruited 23-year-old winger Aaron Nell for next season - which could clear the way for Lee Esders to re-join Ryan Finnerty, at Braehead Clan.

Finnerty is thought to have his eyes on Esders, Simon Ferguson and Chris Frank from his lineup at Sheffield. He is unlikely to get Tylor Michel though, who would be his first pick.

Neill made his full GB international debut in Hungary this month after a fine season with the Swindon Wildcats (EPL) where he scored 60 goals (115 pts) in 57 games. He is Doug Christiansen’s first capture from outside existing ranks.

Christiansen commented: “Aaron has proved himself as a goal scorer at the EPL level. He is a big kid who shoots the puck well. A left handed shot as well which is important to us.

“Aaron has the potential to be a 20 goal scorer in our league and every club in the land is looking for players

that can add that offence to the line up.

“He is a project though, a player that will get better as the year develops. He will be better in March than he

will be in October that’s for sure. I’m going to work with him every day to help make him a better player and one

that can help us all achieve our goals.”
