Sheffield Steelers are losing another player to Italy - but thankfully he’ll be back for the weekend.
Forward Nate DiCassmiro has been granted leave to train and play with the Italian national side this week.
But he will be back for Sheffield’s weekend games with Nottingham Panthers, away, and Coventry Blaze, home.
Steelers’coach Doug Christiansen commented: “It is a massive honour for Nate to be selected to the Italian national team.
“He will miss practice this week but will be back on Saturday. He has a great opportunity this weekend to showcase our team to an international audience. I wish him nothing but the best.”
Steelers lost Rob Sirianni to Val Pusteria last week.
Meanwhile Christiansen was enchanted by the travelling fans’s support at Belfast Giants last weekend.
“They were great! They were loud and into the game all night. I wish we could have given them a bit more to cheer about but they were extremely supportive both nights. I would like to make a special mention to the fans who dressed as Dustin “Cone” (Kohn.) They were hilarious.”
*Steelers defenceman Gord Baldwin will serve an automatic one-match ban following an accumulation of three 10-minute misconduct penalties for abuse of official.
His 10-minute misconduct in the third period (60:00) of his side’s game at Belfast Giants on Sunday was his third, to go with 10-minute misconduct penalties at Cardiff Devils and at Fife.
