Who can feel confident about predicting Sheffield Steelers’ results this weekend?
Recently the team has been unable to shrug off an inconsistency in form, particularly on the road.
If you take the last 11 matches as a sample, Paul Thompson’s men have lost five and won six...four of the victories being by a one-goal margin.
Within that spell they have lost four out of six away games.
So who can forecast how Steelers will fare in this first trip to Braehead Clan this season?
And that is followed by the visit to Nottingham Panthers, who will be keen on inflicting Steelers’ first defeat of the season at the Arena.
Steelers imploded 7-4 at Nottingham on October 31 and d-man Ben O’Connor recognises they always pose a risk.
“Every year Nottingham have got a good team. You can’t remember a bad Nottingham team” he said.
“We collapsed after 30 minutes, last time. We are not making any excuses, we just shut off and when you do that against Nottingham or any team in this league you get punished. We’ve got to learn from that.”
O’Connor is an admirer of Nottingham’s veteran NHL player Juraj Kolnik but says: “I don’t think you can specifically focus on one guy.
“They have got some very good players up front that can hurt you. He is a very good player, you don’t get 250 games in the NHL for nothing.”
O’Connor also noted Sheffield had gone “through a bit of a lull...but it’s a long season you are going to have highs and lows.”
