Sheffield Steelers defender on target for loan club
Sheffield Steelers signing Sam Jones is off the mark for his new temporary club.
The 23-year-old defenceman was loaned out to Telford Tigers when the Sheffield club's hopes of playing in a covid-protected EIHL tournament were recently put in the deep freeze.
Jones flew in from Canada to join the Midlands side and was credited with a goal in Sunday's 5-2 road win at Romford.
It turned out to be a splendid weekend for Jones and his present employers.
On Saturday, Tigers beat the same Raiders side 3-2 at home.
Sheffield's Cole Shudra didn't take long to announce his arrival at Telford either, he scored the first goal in the 3-2 win over Raiders on Saturday night.
Another ex Steelers' skater Kieran Brown was also on target and former Arena goaltender Brad Day turned away 29 shots.
Telford and Swindon Wildcats are locked on four points to share the tournament table lead with Sheffield Steeldogs, who did not play last weekend so have two games in hand on their rivals.
Greg Woods' Steeldogs take on winless Raiders at iceSheffield on Saturday before the return leg the following day.
*Steeler Robert Dowd scored an assist but his Italian side Eppan Pirates lost 6-5 in overtime to Morano.
*Brendan Connolly, another Steeler finding work elsewhere during the coronavirus pandemic, is currently boasting nine points from 18 games with Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the ECHL.
But Greenville's form is up and down; they have been shut out in two of their last three games.
