SHEFFIELD Steelers’ coach Doug Christiansen could be making a move on some fresh British talent over the next week.

The newly-installed American is also assistant coach for Great Britain, who compete in the World Championship in Budapest this weekend.

Christiansen may be looking in particular at Rob Dowd, Craig Peacock and Ben O’Connor, whom he has coached before.

He will also be checking on Steeler skaters from last season, who are in the 22-man squad. One he won’t see is Jason Hewitt, who has been cut.

Christiansen’s job at Belfast Giants could go to ex-Sheffield coach Dave Matsos.

Christiansen said he’d enjoyed his time at Giants but “at this stage of my career the opportunity to hunt Nottingham (Panthers) down from a little bit closer was something I couldn’t pass up.”
