Sheffield Steelers’ big weekend started with a jolt, last night.
Gerad Adams’ men conceded a third-line goal to Belfast Giants’ Mark Garside after four minutes.
It wasn’t the perfect start to a weekend in which Steelers need two points to continue the pursuit of league leaders Braehead Clan...with the little matter of the Challenge Cup final tomorrow, against Cardiff Devils.
But within 82 seconds, Steelers were ahead.
Mathieu Roy stuck the first away followed by Colton Fretter at 15;01 and Sheffield preserved the lead at the first break.
The game was level at 26;47 when the puck evaded Rod Sarich (pictured) and ended past Josh Unice, from the stick of Mark McCutcheon.
Giants’ Adam Keefe suffered a nasty gash from a skate to his wrist in the period.
And Steelers regained the lead when in form Fretter beat Stephen Murphy at 42:40.
But nothing is easy in this league.
And Ray Sawada deflated the Arena fans with a 3-3 equaliser at 49;37.
At this stage it was clear that Braehead had been battered 6-0 at Nottingham, heightening the need for a winner.
And Mike Forney stepped up to deliver with 16 seconds remaining.
A great result - although it was a major surprise to see Sheffield’s Cup rivals Cardiff had won last night..by 12 goals!
