SHEFFIELD Steeldogs suffered a Jeckyll and Hyde weekend - being hammered 8-0 by Slough Jets and then beating top of the EPL table Basingstoke.

Next-to-bottom Dogs had been shorthanded at mid-table Slough - the only team they have not taken points off this season. They have a final chance at iceSheffield on Sunday.

At least they came up trumps against Bison.

Lobomir Korhon put them ahead, assisted by Edgars Bebris and Andrew Hirst. Then Bebris latched onto the puck in the Steeldogs’ zone and skate down the ice while fending off chasing Bison defence to score shorthanded.

While ex Steeler Doug Sheppard got one back, Dogs built a 3-1 lead. a great pass from Greg Wood across the offensive zone found Korhon perfectlyplaced to slam the puck home from the far side for another short-handed goal.

But Bison fought back, and although Lloyd Gibson got a fourth it was all even at 4-4 at 35;44.

Some stability was required. And it came during a relatively quiet third period.

While Bison came out strong Steeldogs got the 5-4 game-winner at 51:48 through Andrew Hirst.
