RUSSIAN-born goalie Dmitri Zimozdra has been praised by his coach after back-stopping Sheffield Steeldogs to consecutive wins.
Dogs turned the form book upside down by winning 4-5 in overtime at Guildford Flames, having beaten Telford Tigers 3-1 previously. And the 24-year-old netminder was in spectacular form.
Coach Andre Payette said: “It was a great four point weekend, the team really came to work and I am very happy with the results. Dmitri is getting better game by game and I believe he is more than capable of filling Ben Bown’s shoes.
“It was a fantastic weekend for our captain, Greg Wood who topped it off with the game winner. He is quickly becoming the best British player in the League.
“It was great to get our first ever win for the Steeldogs in Guildford, giving us three wins in a row and hopefully we can keep this winning streak going.”
Zimozdra faced 43 shots at Flames and 33 at iceSheffield against Tigers.
With just one away game in Swindon next weekend, the Steeldogs are not at home again until October 20 against Slough Jets (7.30pm).
