SHEFFIELD Steeldogs were desperately short of import skaters in their last two games - and paid for it with back-to back 5-3 defeats, to Guildford Flames and Peterborough Phantoms.

Player coach Andre Payette was serving a ban following a fight and disciplinary points accumulation.

Both games had identical period scorelines and results with the fifth opposition goal in each game being an empty-netter as Steeldogs chased a chance at overtime.

Edgars Bebris, two, and Lubomir Korhon scored at Peterborough.

Bebris, Ben Morgan and Greg Wood scored against Guildford at iceSheffield.

A spokesman said: “It was a disappointing home result but we gave a very good team performance against quality opposition.” MOM award went to Steeldogs’ Lee Haywood and Guildford’s ex Steeler David Longstaff.
