WINGER Danny Wood - Sheffield Steeldogs’ new capture from Elite League Steelers - was man of the match and a goalscorer in last weekend’s two EPL matches.

But Woods’ impact could not help them dodge double defeats...4-2 on Saturday at Swindon Wildcats and a whopping 5-1 home defeat on Sunday to Bracknell Bees.

Steeldogs clearly missed the playing brawn and coaching skills of Andre Payete, who was otherwise engaged in the Ukraine coaching GB U20s at the World Championships.

Other absentees included Edgars Bebris and Ashley Calvert.

On Sunday, Dogs’ Lloyd Gibson scored their only goal on 35 minutes.

But the side lost their captain, Greg Wood for a 2+10 checking to the head. And Pavel Gomeniuk received a 10 minute misconduct for a slashing offence. The lack of numbers proved just too much for the iceSheffield outfit.

Twenty four hours later, Swindon beat Dogs for the second time in four days although Sheffield took the lead twice.

The new Czech import, Lubomir Korhon scored his first for the Steeldogs at 4:47, assisted by Derek Campbell and Ben Morgan.

Danny Wood later scored his first in a Steeldogs’ shirt, at 28:44, assisted by Andrew Hirst and Steve Duncombe.

Steeldogs have just the one game this weekend, on Sunday against Basingstoke Bison, with a 5.30pm face off.
