Cam Brownley, who is studying at the Sheffield Steeldogs ice hockey academy education programme, landed a fream call up to play for Edinburgh Capitals against Nottingham Panthers in front of a packed arena of over 4000 fans.

Unfortunately Capitals were beaten so itr wasn’t quite a perfect night for Cam, but Steeldogs academy coach Andre Payette said: “It was a great experience for Cam, he did really well which has earned him the chance to play against Sheffield Steelers.

“This shows the opportunities that can arise through working hard on the ice as well as working even harder on your studies”.

As part of the Steeldogs education programme Cam is studying for a BTEC level 3 qualification in sports in association with PTC Group. The programme offers learners the opportunity to train over five hours per week at ICE Sheffield along with a free gym membership at the EIS and also receive coaching from Payette and other Sheffield Steeldogs first teamers.

The programme also gives the learner the chance to achieve a BTEC level 3 Diploma in Sports.
