THE BIGGEST weekend in Sheffield Steelers season.

That was the build-up rightly given to tonight’s home match against Coventry Blaze together with Sunday’s clash with league leaders Nottingham Panthers.

Steelers’ owner Tony Smith mirrored the views of thousands of Steelers’ fans by recognising there was no long room for errors - or defeats.

Win both games - and the league title would not be a hopeless chase, said Smith.

And tonight Steelers heeded his call.

Man of the match Simon Ferguson, from Rod Sarich, put Steelers ahead, on Saturday, on the powerplay at 09.50.

Just 15 seconds later Brad Leeb, from brother Greg, equalised 1-1.

Anothe PP goal came along from Tylor Michel from Ferguson and Scott Champagne at 22.45,

Jonathan Phillips teed up Ferguson at for 3-1.

And Danny Meyers helped Jeff Legue at 46.34 to make it 4-1.

Blaze made a fight of it, and at 56.25. Dustin Cameron scored from Shae Guthrie and Mike Egerner.

Too little, too late for the Midlanders.

So good news for South Yorkshire.
