Sheffield got their Challenge Cup campaign underway at Ice Sheffield against a Coventry team, who before tonight had played two games in the competition losing both and scoring only twice and conceding thirteen.
The visitors doubled their goal tally and at the same time picked up their first point. As for the Steelers with the point they collected it takes them above Coventry into third place in the Cup standings.
After a goalless first period, the teams shared a goal apiece in the second period. The home side opened the scoring with a strike from Ryan Finnerty at 26.41. However, the visitors got back on level term with a goal from Luke Fulghum at 31.53.
There was nothing to separate the teams in the final period as they once again shared the goals.
Owen Fussey put the visitors in front at 46.05 only for Rod Sarich at 49.46 on the powerplay to make the game all square. This was how it remained and both teams picked up a point each.
